Individual Immortal Quest Rules

  • Immquests are events held by the immortal staff at times of their choosing.  They are for entertainment purposes and come in any number of forms: "boss" mobs to kill, scavenger hunts, riddles and trivia, and so on.
  • During immquests, the immortal holding the event will decide its rules.  Standard rules may be overridden for the duration of the immquest as stated by the imm running it. Generally the rules will be made clear ahead of time, but if you are in doubt about what they are, be sure you ask.
  • For some immquests, an IQ flag and qgossip channel are opened for the duration of the event.  The flag, seen as a Q in the who flags, protects participants from being PKed while they are involved in the event, as well as letting them chat with other participants using the qgossip channel.  Typing "iquest" will turn the flag on. The only way to remove the flag are to relog or wait for the imm running the event to turn the flag off.
  • NOTE: Turning this flag on to gain its protection from PK without joining the quest is illegal and will be punished by the immquest's immortal.
    See Help Immquest

Property

  • Know what is around your property area wise, do not make NON-LINEAR Rooms, which are rooms that overlap other rooms, and screw up the map command, for most places, its best to make a room UP which will keep you from making nonlinear rooms in the area, unless you overlap your own home.
  • Players are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to make objects and descriptions in their housing that fit the steampunk/fantasy theme of the mud.
  • Be kind with Key and Room Usage, there is only a limited amount available.
  • Just as with Airships you are not to name your rooms after popular public or run areas.
Example:  'The Throne Room of Tchazzar' You will lose your property and risk further punishment.
  • Be responsible with room linking, do not link a room of property you own in Torregiano to a room in property you own in another part of the realms. Anyone caught with such links will lose both properties, and possibly even the right to property all together.
  • You are allowed to own 3 Parcels of Property ONLY.  This is world wide.
  • Playerkilling is allowed within PHousing, however it is illegal to use the PHousing building commands to create an unfair PK advantage. This includes but is not limited to: adding or removing flags and doors to trap people inside your property.

Clan Rules

  • New clans must develop an in-depth roleplaying backstory in order to be approved by the RP Immortal, or other designated staff member, and their backstory must be accessible by other roleplayers for LiveRP or written notes.
  • Clan Leaders are stongly encouraged to serve as, or apoint, an RP contact for their clan.
  • Clan Leaders are strongly encouraged to develop the RP of individual clan members.
  • Clan Leaders are responsible for the administration of their clans.
  • Players - not clans - own their own pfiles. (see following rule)
  • Players have the right to leave a clan, but there may be a heavy penalty for doing so.

Roleplaying

  • Roleplaying is not required but it is encouraged -- meaning that roleplaying is not required of players, but we require that non-roleplayers abide by a few basic rules and regulations.
  • Characters' Names - All character names must fit within a fantasy roleplaying mud. Names like Joe, Bob, Kevin, Larry or Carl are not appropriate. Names of Forgotten Realms or Final Fantasy deities or well-known persons from other fantasy worlds (Gandalf, Sephiroth, Moradin, etc.) are reserved for immortal use, or are innappropriate. Do not use combo word names such as 'Blackbeard' or 'Rockdeath'. If we find your name is not suitable for our environment, an immortal staff member will appear before you and offer you a rename.  Please be civil, and we will return with the same.
  • You may not use the Roleplayer tag unless you have a complete character description. Use of the Roleplayer flag without a valid character description could result in being banned from using the flag.
  • Be respectful of others' roleplay and ask permission before entering into roleplay with another person. Using the roleplay board to write notes as a way of abusing another player will be punished. Always ask permission before using another person's name, clan or history.
  • Role playing is encouraged on Waterdeep, however, you MUST role play your character WITHIN the Waterdeep rules. Claiming that you are only playing your character is not valid and is NOT an excuse.
  • Do not use the role board for abusive, harassing or sexual roleplay.
  • Any roleplay note posted by a player remains the intellectual property of the author, however, once posted on Waterdeep's servers we retain the right to publish it on our own servers into the future.

Some new updates and language have been made.

"No power leveling (high level weakens mobs for low level to kill).- Except when within 5 levels of each other. "

Do not use the RIP flag to bypass aggressive or difficult content

*Not really sure what the purpose is in this rule, how it is a detriment to game play.

Do not go linkdead during PK combat

How is this enforceable - Living in a crappy internet zone if I'm PK and I lose connection I may go linkdead while I try and establish my connection again.  Does this mean I can't PK because I may through no fault of my own go linkdead?

Torog's picture

I don't know if the upper level imms can effectively 'know' when this is done. A pattern can emerge -- a player who always seems to drop link just before a kill, over and over.... wow, what are the chances? This feels like a rule that, while hard to prove or enforce, is worth keeping just so other PKers know that those sorts of shenanigans won't be allowed, even if in word only. Although -- people have been caught for doing this and punished, so, we do enforce it when and where we detect it.

  • All clans are RP entities.
  • Clan Leaders must serve as RP contacts for their clan.
  • Clan Leaders must enforce their clan's RP.
  •
  •
  • All names and descriptions must meet the theme of the mud.  No TVs, VCRs or anything non-existing in your area.

Don't make rules you aren't going to enforce.  RP is not enforced, not all clans adhere or participate in thier clan RP and this has been made clear that no punishment will be laid out for not enforcing the clan RP on its members.  The phouse rule of no TV, is again imo the same, if you aren't going to enforce something don't make a rule about it.

Torog's picture

I think the only way to do this right would be to make every new phouse object be logged for review by the RP Immortal, to make sure it meets the requirements. Which.... feels rather tedious.

I think we could change this rule to make it a strong suggestion, not a rule. If someone comes here to play Darth Gingivitis with a laser sword and his trusty robot sidekick who guards him while he runs the Matrix, it won't fit the mud. But is it worth alienating a potential new player? In my opinion, no. But I wouldn't give them any RP awards for being completely out of synch with the mud's general theme, either.

Character NAMES, however, should be enforced to some degree.

How to 'enforce' a clan's RP? Fruit leather snacks? Again, this should be a strong suggestion, not a rule.

Clan leaders are encouraged to foster RP within their clan.

The idea that clans are RP entities is a policy not a rule so not adhereing to it wouldn't land you in RP jail.

Fostering and encouraging RP in clans is a better model, rewarding clans for creating and maintaining RP

based on thier clan RP again a good policy.  But policy and rules are different, for every rule there should be

the idea that, "will this actually land you in jail if you break it?"
